BREATHING HOME

In the post-pandemic era, the concept of the living room is being reimagined. Beyond its traditional role as a space for TV watching, it now accommodates a broader range of activities and purposes.

This project focuses on a typical Chinese household—a retired couple whose adult child visits only occasionally for short stays. The design respects the original situation of the apartment, retaining the existing kitchen, bathrooms, tile flooring, and other key elements. Through thoughtful and minimal interventions, the space is organized to provide flexible functionality, including sliding doors to the balcony, rotatable dining table, murphy bed, etc.

It seamlessly adapts to the couple’s everyday needs while also accommodating larger family gatherings during holidays.
